The LEGO Group Reveal Sustainable Tyres Made From Recycled Materials

In some interesting LEGO news in the LEGO Group’s ongoing eco pledge, it was announced today that a brand-new, eco-friendly material will be used for sustainable tyres crafted from recycled fishing nets, ropes, and engine oil.

This innovative material gives discarded ropes and nets a second life, pairing them with recycled engine oil to lessen our dependence on new fossil fuels.

The LEGO Group revealed that Seven LEGO tyre pieces will initially use the new material, each containing at least 30% recycled content. You’ll start seeing these fantastic new tyres in various LEGO sets, to reach around 120 sets by the end of 2025. The LEGO Group is eager to expand its use of recycled materials to include even more tyre styles in the near future.

Chief Sustainability Officer Annette Stube said: “This is an exciting step in our ambition to make LEGO products more sustainable and reduce our dependence on virgin fossil fuels. Over the past five years, we have invested significant time in developing and testing this new recycled material to ensure it meets our high quality, safety, and durability standards. The tyres are just one of many options we’re working on to make our products more sustainable, and it’s encouraging to see something this innovative making it into our sets.”
